On September 11, a signing ceremony for an international agreement between the Faculty of Geography and Geology, Yerevan State University (YSU) and our Center was held at YSU, followed by the opening ceremony of the newly established Center for Spatial Studies and Urban Informatics (SSUI).

This agreement was concluded in conjunction with the establishment of the SSUI at YSU, with the aim of further strengthening collaboration between the two institutions and promoting joint research as well as researcher and student exchange. The SSUI was established as part of a research program funded by the Higher Education and Science Committee of Armenia, led by Assistant Professor Artak Piloyan of the Faculty of Geography and Geology at YSU, together with Professor Yoshihide Sekimoto and Assistant Professor Kotaro Iizuka of our Center.

During the signing ceremony, the agreement was signed by Associate Professor Sargis Kelyan, Dean of the Faculty of Geography and Geology at YSU, and Professor Sekimoto, Director of our Center, in the presence of Assistant Professor Piloyan, Assistant Professor Iizuka, and other attendees. The event was conducted in a cordial atmosphere, and the signing was followed by an exchange of views among participants.

At the subsequent opening ceremony of the SSUI, addresses were delivered by YSU Rector Hovhannes Hovhannisyan, H.E. Mr. Yutaka Aoki, Ambassador of Japan to the Republic of Armenia, and Mr. Sargis Hayotsyan, Chairman of the Higher Education and Science Committee. Assistant Professor Piloyan then presented the vision of the SSUI. Members of our Center introduced the Center and showcased advanced case studies of spatial analysis, including people-flow modeling and remote sensing based applications, providing an opportunity to share future directions for collaboration under this international agreement. The event conveyed strong expectations and enthusiasm throughout the audience for the joint projects between Armenia and Japan, including the establishment of the SSUI.

These ceremonies marked an important starting point, and further development is anticipated in research collaboration and researcher/student exchange in spatial information science, urban informatics, and related fields.

9月11日、アルメニア共和国エレバン国立大学 (YSU: Yerevan State University)において、同大学地理学・地質学部と当センター間の国際協定の調印式と、空間研究・都市情報学センター (SSUI: Center for Spatial Studies and Urban Informatics) の開所式が行われました。

本協定は、YSUにSSUIが新設されたことを契機に締結されたもので、両機関の研究連携を一層強化し、共同研究や研究者の交流を促進することを目的としています。SSUIは、YSU地理学・地質学部のArtak Piloyan助教と当センターの関本義秀教授・飯塚浩太郎助教が中心となって進めているアルメニア共和国教育・科学・文化・スポーツ省 高等教育・科学委員会（the Higher Education and Science Committee, Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sports of the Republic of Armenia）のリモートラボ助成プログラムの一環として設立されました。

調印式では、Piloyan助教や飯塚助教らが見守る中、YSUの地理学・地質学部の学部長Sargis Kelyan准教授とCSISセンター長の関本教授が協定書に署名をし、無事に締結されました。式は終始和やかな雰囲気のもとに進められ、署名後には出席者による意見交換も行われました。

調印式後に行われたSSUI開所式では、Hovhannes Hovhannisyan YSU学長、青木豊 駐アルメニア日本国大使、Sargis Hayotsyan アルメニア共和国高等教育・科学委員会委員長の挨拶に続き、Piloyan助教からSSUIのビジョンが示されました。さらに、CSISメンバーによるセンター紹介、人流解析やリモートセンシングを駆使した先進的な空間解析の事例が紹介され、本国際協定に基づく今後の連携を共有する場となりました。会場全体にSSUI設立を含むアルメニアと日本の共同プロジェクトへの大きな期待と熱意が非常に強く感じられました。

今回の一連のセレモニーを出発点として、今後、空間情報科学や都市情報学ならびにその関連分野における研究協力や研究者・学生の交流が一層進展することが期待されます。

※開所式およびこの共同プロジェクトはアルメニア国内でも大きな注目を集め、メディアにも取り上げられました。
